100% Grenache Gris from seriously old vines

Katie Jones moved from her native UK to the South of France 20 years ago, and set up Domaine Jones in 2008. To say Katie looks for vineyards no-one else wants would only be a slight exaggeration. Most other growers in the area wouldn’t be interested in her modest twelve hectares of vines spread across vineyards in Maury (her first), Paziols and Tuchan. The sites are too small, too remote and too much like hard work.

The grapes for Katie’s single varietal Grenache Gris come from a plot in Maury. The vines here are all at least 50 years old, with the oldest thought to be 119 years old! The wine has a delicate bouquet of wild spring flowers, with notes of almond blossom, melon and fennel on the palate. This is a real rarity, and well worth trying.
