Crémant de Savoie: Domaine de L’Idylle Brut

Delicious fizz from the most recently elevated Crémant region

Crémant de Savoie, which must contain a minimum of 60% local grapes Jacquère and/or Rousette, became the eighth crémant appellation in France at the end of 2015. It joins Alsace, Bourgogne, Bordeaux, Loire, Limoux, Jura and Die.

Savoie is an ancient and isolated vine area which deploys idiosyncratic grape varieties (originally introduced by monks from Chartreuse) that are seldom encountered elsewhere – Jacquére and Roussette for white and sparkling wines alongside Mondeuse for reds. The Tiollier family has nurtured vines in and around the village (and sub-appellation) of Cruet on the steep slopes of the Isère valley for generations. Situated in the Regional Nature Reserve of the Massif des Baugeas, Sylvain Tiollier works with his father Philippe and uncle François looking after various plots of vines over 47 acres of prime terroir.

Their Crémant is a blend of Jacquère and Roussette grapes, which are handpicked. The wine is aged on lees for 11 months before release. A crisp and bracing sparkling wine with notes of green apple and lemon.
