Excellent Northern Rhône Syrah from a tiny winery

Benoît Roseau, family heir to a rich heritage of winemaking in Algeria, started his tiny 1.5 hectare domaine from scratch by buying and renting various small parcels. He very quickly rose to prominence within the young and dynamic generation of winemakers, bringing new energy to the Northern Rhône. Working with a deep respect for the land, Benoît farms his vines organically and biodynamically, with several parcels in the process of certification. His winemaking is hands-off and old-school: foot-trodden grapes, native yeast fermentations in neutral vessels, gentle pressing with a basket press, and ageing in large, seasoned 600L demi-muid barrels. The result is wine with purity, energy, and a real sense of place.

This Saint-Joseph is a superb example of his style, fresh and vibrant, with bright black fruit, delicate spice, and a lively, mineral backbone.
