A forgotten style of late-harvest, but dry, Sémillon

Belgians Jean-Marie Guffens and partner Maine Heynen are politely known as Flemish mavericks having moved to the Mâcon in the mid-1970s and learnt the ropes working for growers in the area. Before too long they bought wines west of the town and began a négociant business – Maison Verget. Their wines from Pouilly-Fuissé, Mâcon-Pierreclos, Mâcon Vergisson, and St-Véran became lauded across the globe with supply outstripped by demand. Over the last decade or so, they have expanded their vinous enterprises with the purchase of Château Closiot in Barsac in 2017.

This unusual white is a dry late-harvest Bordeaux produced from almost overripe Sémillon grapes which are picked just before Noble Rot sets in.  The result is an aromatic white with notes of lime, stone-fruit and a zesty marmalade edge. Rich yet dry, it has lovely length and texture with a top note of vanilla on the finish.

Local delivery

Local delivery is available within a 10 mile radius of the shop (NE8 2AJ) for a flat fee of £5. If you spend over £75, we will deliver for free.

We deliver Tuesday – Sunday. Order by 5pm for next day delivery, subject to stock availability. Need it faster? Order by 12pm for same day delivery, excluding Saturdays.

Collection

Free collection from the shop is always available, and you can collect any time during our normal opening hours. Please place your order by 11am on the day of collection, and collect within 7 days.

UK-wide delivery

Wine orders: We offer a flat-rate of £12 for UK delivery on all wine or mixed orders. Food orders: We offer a flat-rate of £5 for UK delivery if your order contains food products only. If you spend over £150, delivery is free.

Please note, as we are closed Monday and Tuesday, orders received over the weekend may not be shipped until Wednesday. Once dispatched, our courier aims to deliver next day. Excludes Northern Ireland. Some areas of Scotland will incur a surcharge, please contact us to confirm.
