Dragonstone Riesling (Off-Dry), Weingut Leitz

£16.00

Saline and slightly sweet German Riesling

This family estate is run by Johannes Leitz, who took over what was then a 2.6-hectare property from his mother in 1985, aged just 21 and has grown his vineyard holdings to over 40 hectares in Rüdesheim and Geisenheim. In 2011, he was named “Winemaker of the Year” by Gault Millau, Germany’s principal wine guide. The vineyard is located in the middle of Rheingau with and average age of 20 years. The vines are trellised with the Guyot system and the canopy management is Leitz’s own structure. Sustainable farming practice is employed including leaf removal.

The salty touch on the end of this lightly sweet Riesling delivers a welcome complexity to a juicy, piquant mouthful of pears, pineapples and limes.
