Côtes du Roussillon Villages ‘Vieilles Vignes’ Rouge, Domaine du Clos des Fées

A superb old-vine blend from an acclaimed Roussillon winemaker

In 1981, while in his early twenties, Hervé Bizeul was acclaimed the Best Young Sommelier in France. In 1998, after a spell in journalism, Hervé transferred his skills and attention to a small parcel of abandoned vines in a corner of the Roussillon that he felt had great potential. He has since shown the heights that can be reached in this fascinating region and produces a range of exceptional wines from 30 hectares.

This Côtes du Roussillon Villages is a field blend of Grenache and Lledoner Pelut (Hairy Grenache!), along with 35% Carignan and 15% Syrah. It is produced from some of the oldest vines on the estate (50 to 100 years old), grown on limestone slopes. It’s a richly-fruited, with a wealth of black fruit and wild herb flavours, and enough tannic structure to support a decade in the cellar.
