Bordeaux Supérieur ‘Moisin’, Château Moutte Blanc

Full-bodied Petit Verdot from old  Bordeaux vines

Patrice de Bortoli joined the family vineyard whilst still working as an occupational therapist, and took over full time in 2000. Patrice’s quest was to save their 70 and 100 year old Petit Verdot vines, which 20 years ago had almost all been pulled up throughout Bordeaux. This grape is a capricious variety, demanding over twice as much work in the vineyard as a Merlot vine, and “likes to keep its toes in the water” explains Patrice, so the location in Macau, 300m away from the estuary on an old river terrace with a deep clay, pebbly base (so-called ‘palus’) is perfect.

Moisin is Patrice’s top wine, made solely from 80 year old Petit Verdot wines. Aged in a mixture of new and old oak, it is a deep, brooding wine with aromas of dark fruits and pepper. On the palate it is complex with fine tannins and a persistent finish. Drink now to 2030 and beyond.
